Being an intellectual can be quite harsh. Through out life people are on the run and have less and less time to dedicate to their hobbies and passions in life. Maybe that's why so many people try to make their jobs their own passions. These days people all over the world have access to internet through their cellphones, tablets and computers. But that doesn't mean the information they have access too is of good quality. For instance, instead of learning more about MUSICA or art children maybe using their tablets to watch funny videos. Instead of using their tablets to read books or magazines, people might be spending more and more time at chatting rather than learning about new discoveries, paintings, songs and literature works. That's why I think it is hard for people to be intellectual these days because even though, they have the time and access to good,information there are many distractions and being more educated some times seems less appealing as knowing whose new pop song is out or what kardashian did what.
A solution maybe personal discipline. Committing oneself to make the time to learn more about classical arts, baroque music, poetry and much more. Although simple people can often be quite efficient and helpful that doesn't mean that knowing a little bit more would do them any harm.
